Thanks for the photo, I would like to get a red male but I will get it as a baby so i will not be able to know the sex. Another question, do monitors smell? someone told me that ackies don't small because they eat insects, is it true?
Next to impossible to sex them. I dont notice any smell from my male ackie but thats because there is a male albig in the same room. Not sure what your expecting but when a monitor craps whether it eats mice or insects youll notice it. If your looking for something that makes no smell or are wooried about the smell or mess they make then monitors arent for you. Something else to consider a healthy ackie is always burrowing digging and covered in dirt. Dirt is something they need in deep amounts to be healthy and happy.
I never had any monitor a friend had a bosc and a nile both baby and he said that they small, I don't bother if it do mess but not that the room smells because I have to keep it in my bedroom.
thanks, andrew
i must say though, i like male monitors more than females. if i could keep just one monitor, it would be my male argus.
ackies are cool monitors though.

i just love this guy, hands down my favorite monitor.it probably doesn't hurt that i watched him hatch, was the first monitor out of the egg of that clutch and the little punk turned over every other egg, luckily they still all hatched as i had them marked and put them right side up again.

lol, Can't wait to find out what sex my argus is, so that I can't start breeding. I think I have a female, but....

it looks like a she to me.
they are a lot of fun and not difficult to breed. the gouldi complex do so a lot and rather easily, horny monitors they are
