Leos dont seem to be eating

biscuit71 Jan 12, 2004 07:55 AM

I have a male and female in the same cage, and they dont seem to be interested in eating. The temps and all are fine, it just seems as thought they arent hungry. They have nice fat tails, and dont seem to be in the least bit stressed. I feed them mealworms and have never had a problem with them eating until the last few months. I even tried crickets to see if they were bored with the mealworms, but it didnt interest them.. and and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that they are not just eating when you're not there to see them? Have they been defecating at all? As long as their tails remain fat and they do not start losing weight, they are okay for now. They keep fat and water stores in their tails, allowing them time without feeding.

I have a male leo that shows little interest in eating during the winter months. However, he does fine and doesn't seem to lose weight. He eats, just in small amounts and not everyday. Crickets I didn't even try, he hasn't shown interest in those since switching to mealies. Instead, I have been purchasing silkworms and he's been eating those very readily. You might want to try something like that, the silkworms in particular are very nutritious. If you can't get those in your area, even something a little different, like superworms (if you feed mealies) might be worth a go.

This would actually be the first winter i have had them, so maybe this is a normal thing. As far as my not seeing them eat... I notice every now and then a worm is gone, but nothing spectacular. I did try wax worms on one of the few occasions that petco was able to get them, and they tore them up, but that was a month or more back. Any ideas for sites i can get the silk worms at?

I did a short search and found this site http://www.mulberryfarms.com/

If you happen to be in Canada, there is silkworms.ca (you can get them shipped into the US)

I'm sure there are more out there! I actually get my silkworms from the pet stores here.
