Hogg Isle question. If you know anything about their natural history please read

mrcanada21 Jan 12, 2004 12:34 PM

I'm sure these questions have come up before but when I searched the archives I couldn't find any good info. My questions are

1) Exactly where do these boas originate from (I couldn't find an island called Hogg Island when I looked)and where is this island in relation to a country...in other words, off what coast?

2) I understand these animals are extremely rare on their native island, possibly even extirpated. Has it been accepted that they are gone from the wild? What caused their sudden decline since they obviously did quite well for an extremely long period of time.

Any info on these questions or any other interesting facts on these snakes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

time. You have an incredible website, you've obviously put a ton of work into it and it shows. You amaze me with your knowledge, your animals, your company policy and the fact that you always have time to answer questions here on Kingsnake. Your a true asset to the hobby. I learned alot about hoggs (and others) from your site, Thanks.

All the best.

.. a lot of compliments on the website, yours is one of the best.

The website was an attempt to share our experiences with our customers and the public. One thing we wanted to do was to give away as much info as we could, people spending lots of money on our animals shouldn't have to buy a book or a video explaining how to keep or breed their new pets! And I was tired of getting hit with all the pop-ups and immortal cookie-storms on other sites. We wanted to get away from that..

The other thing that needed exposure is the general natural history of the boas. The colors and phases and morphs and all the money talk are important but I came up in the hobby from an interest in nature and zoogeography and I want to give people who may benefit from that a chance to see the same info...

I believe that the more we all know our animals will live better lives and our hobby will grow in the right directions!

Thanks again,
