Fogger Questions

lbonachea Jan 12, 2004 01:46 PM

Hey, i didnt get any responses about foggers under my earlier post so i figure I'd post one specifically about them.

I want to create a fog layer on the bottom of my new cold forest terrarium, but I only want it to work for a few hours here and there. So my questions are :

1) Does the fogger need to be in the terrarium itself? can i put it in a sealed container and pump in the fog using pipes? If not, how deep of a reservoir do they need? i could fit a turtle lagoon inside with no problem, hell it might look even nicer, but I dont want too much standing water in case my crested geckos happen to fall in.

2) can the fogger be operated on a lamp timer? I wouldnt see why not, but I want to be sure before i waste the $30.

Thanks!

I tried this once. I bought an ultra-sonic fogger and attempted to bring the fog up a 5/8" tube only about 2 feet. The fogging chamber was about 2 liters in size. The fog would only rise 10-12" and the chamber became extremely hot after 30 minutes. All in all, a failure. I think the fog was too heavy to rise under the low presure of the chamber. A lot condensed on the sides after only a few minutes. A pump style fogger would do better, but the fog is still heavier than air and some will still be lost to condensation.
