Neodesha or Animal Plastic??

SittonJ Jan 12, 2004 02:30 PM

I'm looking into getting a new cage for my year old corn snake and I want it to be as escape proof as possible. I had a year old corn escape from my last cage never to return (it was an aquarium with sliding top for snakes). Neodesha and Animal Plastics were the cages that appealed to me. Does anyone recommend one over the other for escape-proof, cleaning, or appearance?

Neodesha cages are escape-proof. They also have rounded corners and smooth interiors for easy cleaning. The 3ft standard sloped-front model is economical and would make a fantastic cage for an adult cornsnake, and even a yearling couldn't escape. Get the tempered glass front, not the acrylic.

Animal Plastics cages are also excellent, but the acrylic window and square design does not lend itself to being as display-friendly as the Neo. I look at AP cages as functional stackable housing though. The seams and corners are not rounded.

You really couldn't go wrong with either, but for accessibility and security, the glass-front Neos are a great choice.

Juvenile Grey-banded kingsnakes, adult Scarlet Kingsnakes, and adult Coral Snakes have all been known to escape from the standard Neodesha slant-fronted cages.

And yes, it was with glass (not acrylic) fronts that were properly installed and had pins and/or locks. I've heard of cases with all three species from experienced keepers so I'm inclined to believe it.

To be fair, these are probably the best escape artists in the snake world. I have no doubt that a yearling cornsnake could be safely housed in one of these.

I have kept several small almost hatchlings kings in the Vision cages with never a problem,i have to sale out of all the cages i have ever used Neos are the most escape prook i have seen. Also there alot easier to heat, andclean keep humidity. My choice hands down are Neos

I would strongly recommend Animal Plastics over any other cage currently on the market. Neos are also quality cages but here are the reasons I prefer AP cages:

1. Very easy to clean material (its actually FDA approved for use in kitchens)
2. The half inch plastic has incredible insulating properties and hold humidity well
3. The cage doors close by actually insetting into the front creating a virtually escape proof enclosure.
4. I absolutely love the integrated radiant heat system, which I believe is the safest belly heat offered.
5. The prices are very reasonable and the shipping costs are incredibly low.
6. They are stackable without the need of a rack and don’t have the sagging problem other cages have.
7. I also think the look great – very professional looking.

Again, you will likely be happy with either as they are both professional grade cages, but in my opinion Animal Plastics cages are the way to go
