When does your leo poop? and how to get a leo to poop...

AgentOfLillith Jan 12, 2004 02:47 PM

Hey all,

Just wondering, what time of day do your leo's poop? Mine seems to go at midnight every other night. Also are there any tricks to get a leo to poop when you want it to? (like giving them a warm bath? works for cornsnakes, but for leos?).

Reason I'm asking is that my vet is being picky on the fecal sample age she wants. She wants it like brand spankin' hot out of the rear, but that's close to impossible since I live 4 miles away from her and I have classes to go to in the morning.

Sorry I don't know any tricks to get leos to poop on your schedule (though if you freak them out enough they might poop on you). Ask your vet if refrigerating the poop will keep it fresh for her purposes.

OMG. ROTFLMAO

Apparently, she doesn't want me to refrigerate it (something about it slowing down flagellates, which I don't quite agree on). Not too sure on what to make of it actually, whether she's just being professional or being overly picky. But, yeah, heheh, the image of steaming poop on a cold winter's day entered my mind when she described what she wanted.

Mine went when I was cleaning his vent area with a warm wet paper towel...

...is to have your leo poop at the vet's office. If your leo doesn't poop out of aggravation, it's always possible for the vet to perform an enema. I don't know if it's recommended, but it's been done before to one of my leos and it sure did the trick in getting him to poop. He pooped twice: on the vet tech doing the enema and then on the vet during the examination. I was proud. For a sick leo, he sure did put up a fight.

I have no pooping tricks up my sleeve so can't help you there. The time my guys poop at varies, but for the most part the usual routine in the evenings is at some point after the daytime lamp goes out, they will come out and lay there yawning and veg for a bit before they make their bee line to the bathroom. Then they come back and look for what's to eat. I was told by my herp vet to bring poop in within 12 hours of pooping and no refridgeration. So that means I have to get my poop in to the vet latest by 8-9 AM or so.
