not ment to annoy but questions about azureus with panted mantells....

kcaiman Jan 12, 2004 03:02 PM

i keep both of these in separate tanks and was just wondering what the downfall would be if someone did keep these two species together? would it just be different needs? thanks for any thoughts

mantellas are wild caught and azureus are usually but not always captive bred. this means your mantellas carry parasites they contracted naturally in the wild that your azureus are not acclimated to. it will not be long before the parasites take over your captive bred frogs eventually killing them. i had to learn this the hard way. do not mix them, it is a costly mistake.

Here are a few reasons they should not be put together...
1) I'll bet the farm that the painteds are wild....this means a slew of potential parasites, and their transmission will equal dead azureus
2) In order for mantellas to breed, they should have running water accompanied by a dry out period that would be WAY to dry for the azureus
3) I am sure the azureus would eat all of the food as they are more aggressive feeders from my experience
4) There is no way whatsoever that these frogs could benefit in any way from a mixed tank. You'd just end up with stressed and/or dead frogs.
I hope that answered your question
Good Luck

All mantellas have live in an environment that is quite a bit cooler than what darts live in, so no. Plus its generalyl good to believe in if they don't occur together in nature then not in the terrarium, they live on seperate continents.
