Animal Rescues...

AmyG Jan 12, 2004 04:26 PM

You know, animals rescues are so underrated. it really is sad. No matter what kind of animal you want, you can really get from a rescue. The animals are usually mistreated, unwanted or just forgotten. I am getting a Senegal parrot from a rescue in Warren, MI. for about 1/ 10th the price I'd pay for one in a pet store. Sure it may take a little more work... whatever.
If you guys ever decide to get an animal, be it horse or bird, snake or iguana, cat or dog, go to a shelter or a rescue... you will really be helping the critters out.

Good point Amy
It's true that if you're willing to take the time to look, you can find just about anything in rescue. We get lots of the common stuff (iguanas, savs, and the like), but we've also had lots of uncommon rescues come in.....veiled chameleons, a rainbow boa, a blood python, a beauty snake, several carpet pythons, tegus, etc. The adoption fees are usually really reasonable, and you get an animal that's health checked, usually well-socialized, and really in need of a good home. And this is true with reputable rescues for all species, be it herps, cats, dogs, birds, whatever.

Oh, and Amy....no, you still can't have the blood And the viper boa is doing awesome!

Hey,
Is this blood a rescue? That is one heck of a find! Great going on saving this fellow. And he or she looks like it is in good hands. Awesome picture.

Yep, she was a rescue....turned over by a local petshop as a baby when she came in with a nasty nasty URI, and they were too cheap to treat it.

Can you send a pic of the viperboa? I'd like to see what he's looking like now.

Half of the animals I have are rescued/adopted. After running the adoptions program for the Chicago Herp. Society for three years, you do get the chance to cherry pick. Admittedly, I have two stp's that were adoptions that I have today. One I had to treat for URI as well. The really funny part is when I show my animals and people comment on them. I am a big advocate of herp adoption to responsible owners and continue to promote that in all my presentations.

Can you pick out the adoptions in the photo?
