Margarita Island Cribos

mattkot Jan 12, 2004 04:36 PM

Wondered if anyone might be interested in posting comments on the Margarita Island Cribo. I will be vacationing to the Venezuelan island the first week of March and would be interested in spending a day or two in the field to see if I couldn't luck upon one for photos.

I'm wondering if anyone knows whether they frequent the drier west side of the island, the wetter areas near the mangrove forests, or are they to be found on the lush eastern end.

There is little to any information that I was able to locate on the net using Google so I thought I'd try the indigo forum. My guess would be that they are more prevalent in the relatively dry portions of the west end of Margarita Island as that is reportedly where the rattlesnakes and iguanas are more easily found. I think it would be great to post photos of the sub-species were I able to locate one so it'll be a victory for the group.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,
Yep, if you can find one we'd certainly be interested in photos and collection data. The subspecies was described from 1 (one) specimen.

It was found on the west side if the island, that's all I've been able to find.

You will not be allowed to collect, so...by all means, go out hunting with your camera, and please share!

You are entering rarely sailed Drymarchon waters.
