I knew Lumpy wouldn't live a normal life, but I didn't think he'd go like this...

veronicag Jan 12, 2004 06:31 PM

I am sitting here at work and I just got a call from my husband who just got home. He said he saw some commotion over by Tina and Lumpy's cage and he got up to investigate it. Tina had Lumpy's head in her mouth! By the time my husband could pry his poor little head out of her mouth he was already gone. Poor little guy. I feel so bad. They got along so well and never showed any aggression towards eachother. Tina always slept right next to Lumpy as if to guard him. I think I'm in shock. I still don't belive what my husband has just told me. I don't want to go home to see him. I should've separated them! Tina is about an inch longer than Lumpy and 20 grams heavier. I had no idea something like this was possible from a small beardie like Tina. Please, everyone, be careful how they house their beardies. I only kept Lumpy with Tina because I was afraid he would die of loneliness. Now I guess I won't have to worry about that.

RIP Lumpy

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.......

and she realized something was wrong. We have seen other animal babies start thrashing with passing away and the other pick them up in their mouth and walk around with them...or pass away and the others pick them up, pull on them or nudge them.

Also, I know its not pleasant to think, but one animal that dies often is looked as as food for another.

I am sorry he has passed away, I know you gave him all the chances a dragon with so much going on could have had.

I have noticed that sickly ones make a good target. Also, ones who have been bitten before seem to be targets.
I believe that they can since something different about them and it's natures way (survival of the fittest).

Don't feel like it's your fault. Perhaps it was best for him? No more struggles for survival for him.

You know she's right on. Plus, you've been too good to feel bad about this. I think any respected keeper would have not considered what you did a risk by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Still trying to cope with ours after 3 days. I can understand what you are feeling right now. But- you can trust that you did all that you could with him. You were lucky to have him. I hope you feel better soon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to loose one of your babies, but I think it's hardest when it's a special little one like lumpy.

RIP
Lumpy
