Silkworm growth rate question

shopaholic Jan 12, 2004 07:54 PM

Hi folks: what is the duration your silkworms take to start cacooning? And do you see the same worms from the same hatching grow at etreemly different rates ever? Thanks-Maggie

Yes, some of the worms will be larger than others, within the same hatching.

Growth-rates are different for everyone. It depends on how warm you keep them, and how much you feed them.

You can take hatchlings to cocoons in as little as a month.

If you have any other questions, I'd be more than happy to help out.

Hi Thanks for your help! Well, my silks had hatched on Dec. 8-10. Some are near 3 inches and most are about 1&1/2 inches and there are a few that look like the rest did at 1 week old just 1/2 inch. I thought maybe they were sick or something to be that different in size. Thanks-Maggie
