I have a Pacific Tree Frog whos left eye has gotten cloudy, and looks kind of like a catarac. Dont really know what quite to do with this problem. He is about a year and a half old, and has not had any problems since I've had him. I looked at the other eye and it seems to be OK. Is there anything that I can do or give him to make this clear up?

When in doubt, take it to the vet! I referred to the Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry book, a cloudy I can be the result of a systemic infection, or a localized infection of the eye from bacteria or fungus. The possibilities of an untreated condition like this seems to be rather severe. If it is indeed a cataract, it'll take the veterinarian less than five minutes to determine that. Otherwise it will need treatment only a veterinarian can give. Unless this tree frog is getting close to 10 years old, I would not necessarily count on a cataract being the problem.

I know what cataracs are and what they look like, but what exactly causes them? Is it just a problem where the eye starts to actually go bad from old age or is it more disease related?
