sorry I didn't look around, but do garters require uvb rays? I read some peoples posts and they just say that they have regular fluorescents.

Some keepers feel Garters will benefit from UV exposure because they are such an active diurnal snake, but this seems to be more of a theory than a proven necessity of husbandry. I am not aware of any studies or evidence regarding the need of UV for captive garters and most keepers do not incorporate it as they would for lizards or turtles. I would be interested in seeing posts from people who have made observations comparing the use of UV light with regular husbandry. I presently do not use UV with any of my Garters. I only rely on room lighting from a few lizard and turtle enclosures.

My garter has been going strong for 8 years with only an incandescent bulb.
