All you creative custon cage makers- I have a question

mngrivera Jan 12, 2004 11:31 PM

I tell you have been so impressed with all of you and also have gotten bit with the fever! In spite of recent loss we have decided to get another beardie but - hopefully a sub-adult or adult this time. We have been thinking of getting a new entertainment center and now have decided to make our old one into a enclosure for a new beardie. My queston is - How did you come up with your placement of your heat source? We are in the planning phase of this project and are stumpted. I would love to plce something inside but it looks instead that we might have to cut and screen part of the top in the back to put in a screen and be able to have a heat light. The enclosure will be approx. 18"deep x 47"W x 26"H. My husband was also thinking of cutting a square out and making a screened box that will be submerge into the top of the enclosure by 4 inches to try hide our heatlight. What do you think?? What wattage do you use for heat and how big are your enclosures?? Thanks alot.

You can buy a basic light fixture and attach a lamp cord, then you just screw it into the top of the enclosure and it doesn't require cutting any holes in the top only one in the back to thread the cord though. Of course be sure it is safe for the wattage bulb you use, but this is what I have in my enclusures.

I would go to Home Depot and just go buy some light fixtures. The kind that are up in your closets. The will simply screw into the top of your cage. Buy ceramic fixtures instead of plastic ones, they may melt.

Check out my site for some pictures and a step by step process on how to do it. Scroll down half way or so.

As for actual *placement* you need to figure that out as you are making your shels in your cage. They will determine the basknig spots.

As for what type of bulb... I use a regular incadescent house bulb. I use two, a 100 watt on one side and a 40 or a 60 on the other.
