Yellowtail growth rate....

Keith Hillson Jan 13, 2004 12:22 AM

What kind of average growth rate do YT's go through ? Mine is 30" or so and is a male (2003 hatch). He is from Dean A's animals and Im not sure how big his adults were so Im sure genetics plays a part. As far as temperment mine is a very mellow and not even that flighty, more so than most Kings but not bad. He never offers to bite either which is a plus and I hope that holds true when he is bigger and packs a little more heat.

Regards,

Keith

keith, their growrh rate can be astonishing. my 03, a sister to yours is shedding again but i do not know how long she is because she is flighty and i never touch her but she is pretty big already and heavily built. she is in blue again this week so i will get an idea soon. i also got an 03 spilotes from dean which is REALLY growing length wise. to answer an earlier question, both of them readily and greedily accepted f/t once i started ripping the food items throat open exposing soft tissues and blood. they are absolutely attracted to this. try it, they;ll like it..........;-]

Mine is in the blue again as well. Since he has been eating the last month or so he has grown quite noticeably. Do you have any pics of your female ? Soon as this guy sheds I will get more pics Im dying to try my new digital out on him.

There aren't a lot of us here that have really raised them as far as I know!

Dan would be the best bet. I got all my animals as adults and
that was my first clutch.

As far as the size of the parents, then male is over 8' now, only 5 yrs old and still growing pretty rapidly. He's a BEAST. big, fat, eats jumbo rats. He's a cb animal from Elloitt stock.

The mother is a wc snake that I had in my collection for 2 years when she bred. She was about 5.5' when I got her...no way to tell how old she was, but as soon as she started feeding regularly, grew rapidly. She was about 6.5' when she laid the eggs and she too is still growing pretty rapidly.

Spilotes are another story. They are like kelp.
You can sit there and watch them grow. I had a pair I produces in 2002 get well over 5' after a year without even pushing them.
