She is starting to put some weight back on after the pet store baby sat both my Igs when I went out of town for a week. They both had lost weight while they were there. They said that they ate everything they gave them, but they probably only fed them once a day. I always keep their food dish full and moist all day long. I was really mad because I felt they were mistreated while they were there. She is shedding again. She sheds at least 2 times a month. Is that normal?

Sam-N-Ella Jan 13, 2004 02:12 AM

Here is a pic of Sam. He is 2 years old.

Sam-N-Ella Jan 13, 2004 02:15 AM

I think Sam may even be a female. For being 2 years old doesn't he have kinda female features? The jowels aren't real big. Just a thought, but I'll find out sooner or later. Here's another pic.

I think Sam could be afemale as well...can you get a pic of her femoral pores on the inside of her back thighs? if they are really small, then I would bet a female...I have 3 females who live together peacefully...and they were NOT raised together...they have been together for only 2 yrs and they are 3 yrs old, 7 yrs old and 9 yrs old...have a great day...very pretty igs....Ella is also very GREEN! lol...Lyn

Thanks. The femorale pores are real small, but I'll post pics. of them as soon as I can. They aren't real happy with me right now because I tried to take them out for a walk on a harness. That was not a happy moment for either of them or myself. I have a big outside enclosure, but when I put Sam out there he/she wants to get out into the grass and he scrapes his nose on the cage.

i have tried the leash thing with my iggs. the little one hates it and the big one could care less.. lol

just make sure when you use the leash that you dont ruin any of his spines on his back. if you look at the pics of mine he is missing a few of the spines on his lower back not sure how they were lost that is how they were when i got him. But i still like him the way he is

I was wondering about that. How does the harness work and not hurt the spines. Ed(Ella) was missing some when I got her too. I bet you can take your guy outside and he probably won't take off. Mine will stay right there for about 3 or 4 min. just walking around then they just take off. And then it's off to the races.

Thanks. How is your guy doing? Good luck with them.

Iguanaboy8705 Jan 13, 2004 10:12 PM

hey thanks for asking dude-he is doing a little better-just gotta hold on/take care of him best i can until fri. when he goes to the vet.......i am getting collard, squash and bananas tommarow (the banas as treats) for them to eat.....so they will finally be on the right diet.....then next and last step i need to make is to get a uva/b light-but it will be 1 to 4 weeks because my parents are getting divorced and we are low on money as it is and i had to choosee on bringing my ig to the vet or gettinga light.....and its obvious which one i should choose.......they can hold off a little longer without it......there have been a lot of healthy igs raised their whole life without one....so i think they can last a few more weeks....lol

Hey. I'm sorry to hear about your parents. Too bad there wasn't a way to get them outside in the sun during the day for a while. I wouldn't put them out in a glass cage though. You might want a flatter food dish. Maybe a top to some tupperware or something. That will make it easier for them to eat off of. You might want to put two food dishes in there on opposite sides of tank. Careful how much banana you give them. My Igs. love bananas. I fed them bananas by hand and it took at least a day before they would eat anything else. It's best to mix it with their food. About 5% is what I've read. They will still pick it out, but at least they will get other food too. Are you giving them any kind of supplement? I give mine nutragrow, it's not expensive. I've asked in here if nutragrow was good to give them, but I don't think I ever got an answer. Maybe someone can help with that. It has all the vitamins they need, but it makes the food a little drier. So you have to moisten it more after you mix it in with the food. Anyway, good luck and I hope everything works out ok.
