Louisiana Bill 1468 to regulate herps

gdough1 Jun 05, 2003 03:24 PM

Louisiana is in the process of passing a bill that would regulate "non human primates and non-native reptiles" rquireing permits and /or licences to possess these animals. Keeping a pet lowland gorilla is probably not a good idea but I do not believe all herps should be included in ths catagory. If any one who has experienced a situation like this in their state or sells reptiles to customers in louisiana could offer some help/advice as to a course of action it would be greatly appreciated.

I notice this bill is sponsored by the people that want to regulate every piece of minutiae in our lives: the Democratic Party. Bastards!

Now I have a reason to hate the Democrats even more.

yes i too think democraps suck. but anyways

we had a bill try to get thru the legislator here in oregon, and i'll tell you everything we did to fight it. first get all contact info for the folks that are sponcering it and then for everone that can vote on it, which means for every representative.

make copys of both the bill the the legislators contact info, go around to every pet store and herp vet that you can find and tell tehm what is going on, remember this is going to take money out of thier pockets(don't forget to put your contact info on the sheets so ppl can get ahold of you).

get ahold of all herp groups and let them know what is going on, start a letter writting campain, phone calls, and e-mails.

go over the bill and find all the untruths and lies that are in there( there will be many i'm sure) also find out who is going to inforce the laws, and find out where they think they are going to get the money for some un-needed bill. this info will be good if you can talk to a legislator.

contact local radio stations and news papers to get the word out, this will be very usefull if there are alot of lies in the bill because news papers like to expose lies in the goverment. try to contact AM raidio stations, many of them are republican/conservative and would love to fight some democraps.

let me know if this helps and what else i can do to help, i will go over all my old note and see what else i can find to help you.

fight the good fight,
Samuel

P.S. just remembered try to find info on salmanilla infections in your state and how many could be directly linked to herps, the legislator will try to say that herps cause salmanilla in humans and that is cause to ban them

im a little late on the posting, but this is a great thing. anyone who loves herps should see it. if you really love them, you can always go get that stinking permit. this will surely lower the amount of careless owners and ensure more animals to happier lives. its not a banning, its a permit.
