Getting my beauty snake tomorrow

Langi Jan 13, 2004 10:04 AM

I'll be getting my taiwan beauty snake tommorow and I wanted to make sure I have everything ready. I have a 10gl setup with aspen bedding, a large climbing branch, a decoritive hide, and a water bowl. The temp stays mid 70s without any heat source, which I was told it ok. Is that right? Thanks and I will post pictures asap.

Oh and its a hatchling so it will fit in a ten gal for a while, I didn't want you to think I was trying to fit an adult in a ten gal. ^-^

I hope you are aware of the growth rate of these snakes. They grow fast! Within a six months or less, you will be searching for a larger cage.

Sounds good but I have a couple of ideas that I think would help you. Make sure to use a large water bowl that is big enough for your snake to totally submerge itself in as they like to do that and will often use the bathroom in it too.
I would place a under the cage heat source that gives him or her a warm spot on one side of the cage of about 83 or 84 degrees. My adults and offspring use theirs a good bit especially after feeding. Try to place a hiding place on the cool and warm side of the cage.
When using an aquarium with a screen top with a species like the tiawan beauty that need the humidity on the high side I always cover most of the screen top, just leaving about a 2 or 3 inch gap on each end of the top for ventilation. Another thing you can do to help keep the humidity up is to place the water bowl right next to the warm spot. Hope this is helpful.
