Bosc Breeding?

paxerisia Jan 13, 2004 12:43 PM

I asked this earlier, but it was eembedded in another long post.

I know that no one breeds Boscs for economic reasons. Are they actually hard to breed in captivity? I've rather fallen in love with the big lugs, and I have some space after Cortes died.

My question, I guess, is what do Boscs need to breed? Do they need to be started together as hatchlings, or can I get a confirmed male for my female? Should they live separately or together? How large should their enclosure be?

I know that I will get no financial reward for such an undertaking, even if it is successful. I'd just like to see if I could do it.

Or should I just get a pair of ackies like everyone else?

Thanks.

Hello Pax,

Your best bet for answering 99% of your questions about Bosc's which are great animals is take a good look at Daniel Bennett's newest book on Bosc Monitors. It can be purchased most good pet shops I would think...its less than $15. Take a look at that book, and I am sure it will answer most of your questions, which are good ones...

I bred V. exanthematicus many years ago, and it is not too difficult...and incubation techniques are much better now than 15 years ago too.
Good Luck,
markb
