I recently ran across a book on Ebay I couldn't resist getting. The front had sort of a cheesy picture of a taipan in a gaping posture, but the description and its potential sounded nice. The book is called "Dangerous Snakes of Australia, An Illustrated Guide to Australia's Most Venomous Snakes." It is the revised edition, and is authored by Peter Mirtschin and Richard Davis. The color picture section alone was worth the $6 I paid on Ebay. There are tons of pictures of the various species of tiger snakes and their various color forms, even an albino common tiger is listed. There are also numerous pictures of some of the lesser known Australian elapids (to us here in the US anyway), like the broad-headed snakes, banded snakes, and pale-headed snakes. On top of the pictures, there are reams of information including scale counts, individual species info, danger ratings, etc. Definitely a book anyone would want to get who is interested in Australian elapids.
