Just got off the Phone with Mr. Nesci also Irwin Information.

WIKD Jan 13, 2004 02:52 PM

I just got off the phone with Mr. Nesci. We spoke about various Crocodilian topics including the actions of The Croc Hunter, and himself. The fact is that Jim knows more than 99.9% of the people here at the forum, and also knows 100% more about Bubba than anyone else in the world. In fact when Jim’s grandkids come to visit he locks up his dog, why? “Because I (he) trusts the Alligator more than my dog”. Jim also gave me ideas to start a club around the area which I will do in the near future. Jim has 50 years experience in the field, and in my eyes experience is what counts. As for Steve’s actions I don’t think anyone knows what went on behind the scenes. The croc that Steve used is named “Murray” and Steve has extensive knowledge of his reactions and behaviors. There were 6 people standing behind Steve ready to take little Bob in case of a mishap. Also, did anyone see Murray retreat back into the water after the feeding? In my mind I see Jim Nesci as trying to break the ignorance of society about the animals we care so much about, as well as supporting all of us who own Crocodilians. Thanks for reading.

I am going to attempt to to word this carefully so as not to start a war as apparently there is some emotional attachment to this subject on this forum.

I have no personal knowledge of Mr. Nesci and therefore will not address his knowledge or dedication to what he's doing. I will respect the opinions of others who have posted enough here in the past that I have developed respect for their opinions.

Having said all that, I am of the opinion that children riding on the back of an alligator does nothing other than to create a sideshow act of the animal and the event. I don't think that it does anything positive for the image of the animal, and perhaps even does the opposite by encouraging some to want to acquire one for themselves. Even with the message that is apparently conveyed to the audience, I believe there are a good number of people who are not listening because they are so engrossed in the "performance". I consider that there hasn't been an incident in all these years fortunate.

As far as the comment "99.9%" - be careful there, you have no idea who reads this forum. I happen to know that some of the top people in the field, with names that would be easily recognizable to most people with a true interest in crocodilians, look in here on a semi-frequent basis. Because people don't post, doesn't mean they aren't here.

I do not begrudge you for your opinion on the matter.

Mr. Moss,
Just to clarify, I said "The fact is that Jim knows more than 99.9%," not to be confused with ME knowing that much...I come to this forum to learn, and appreciate all of the knowledge shared here. I was merely conveying some of Jim's wisdom.
Thanks.

Bill,

Perhaps you can plan a vacation in early april (april 3&4) down to chicago. I know it is a heckuva long drive for you, but I do know for a fact that Jim will be down there with bubba as always. I also know you would enjoy seeing someone else down there as well named Bob Bavirsha.

Bubba will be at the Chicago Herp Societies Reptile fest as always with Jim. The last time I counted I believe there was 163 different reptile species. It is an all education reptile event with NO live animal sales. There are a few vendors there, but not many.

This is an open invitation to any who want to come and meet Jim (BTW I will be there as well as Rob)
Reptile Fest
