pharoh08 Jan 13, 2004 03:57 PM

hello all,

one of my 3 leo's has been having feeding problems, she didnt eat for about the first month than she started eating mealworms now about 2 weeks later she has stopped eating again, she has been seperated from the other 2 with a temp of about 82-84, she has never liked crickets, and now she wont even look at any of the worms, in about the last week she hasnt realy had her eyes fully open and sometimes she wont open them at all, and she hant pooped in about 4days, its been 5 days since her last known meal, but she still has the strength to struggle when i pick her up.

also there is no vets around that will take or even look at reptiles.

if any one can help plz do,

Try a wax worm, and maybe raising the temps to high 80's (88-90 deg F). Don't feed too many waxies though, they're addictive.

For a herp vet in your area try this link:
www.arav.org/USMembers.htm

Pick your state and it will list all the available herp vets in your state. If you can't find a herp vet in your phone book, try calling the nearest zoo, and ask who they use for their herps.

For the feeding problems, I would definitely try a wax worm, or depending on the size of your leopard gecko, try some small silk worms. I would only feed these to your gecko until his/her appetite is back because they will get spoiled on them, and they are very fatty.

If these worms don't work, then mix together some meat baby food with pediolyte(or gatorade). Fill up an oral syringe to about .4cc's(more or less depending on her size) and feed it to her this way once or twice a day, until her appetite is back.

the nearest vet is about 1 1/2 hours away and the nearest zoo is about 2 and i cant go to either as i got no way to get there right now.

I raised the temp this morning as a final feed atempt before i try anything else.

if that dosent work i got baby chicken food and the cheaper form of pediolite(sp) and some powerder vitamins as told by another person from another forum im on.

but she wont touch the any live food, ive tryed wax worms, meal worms, crickets, and some commercial food. which is all i can get around here.

for the most part this post was to get different opions , but for the most part it seems like they are the same and the only thing left is the baby food thing.

Just remember with the baby food, do NOT exceed .4cc's, because this is about all their little stomachs can hold. If you go over this amount they will regurgitate it and could possibly regurgitate ALL of it. So keep it around .3-.4cc's. Also try to force feed them, get them to open their mouth, and put a pinhead crik in their, do this with about 3 crix a day. Do this in addition to the baby food w/ pediolyte.
