If you divide a 55 gallon aquarium the floor space would be inadequate to properly house 2 ball pythons. Would be perfect for one though.
What's the dimensions of your terrarium, length and width? I looked up some info and a 55 gallon glass tank is about 48 x 13 inches. So half would be 24 x 13, that's 312 sq. inches per side. If you had a snake 36 inches in length, then the 2/3 length principle would allow for 24 inch length tank. I think these would be cramped quarters for a snake, but I'm sure some people do it in rack systems.
In your question, you referred to "two adult ball pythons living on both sides". That would mean 4 snakes. I assume you meant 1 snake living on each side for a total of 2 snakes.
