A sad sad day ...

LeatherFace420 Jan 13, 2004 04:47 PM

Hey all, i used to have 5 RES, but today one of my babies passed away, he was a nub as my g/f put it. when i bought 4 babies from chinatown this oct 2 of them were missing limbs, i didnt mind at all cause i figured they had a better chance of survival with me then in a horrible bowl in freezing weather.. the others are all doing fine and im taking care of my other one with his respiratory problem. i just cant believe my nub passed away... he was growing and active but then out of the blue he kinda stopped doing anything , got a wierd white substance in front of his mouth and passed away over night.... i didnt think anything of the white stuff as i thought he was just shedding.... anyone know of this as a big problem? should i sterilize the turtle tank? thanks for the help..

I'm sorry that your baby died. I was wondering if it was the one who you said was doing the same thing that mine was in a previous posting. I would like to know if I should be worried about mine too. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

That's so sweet. It's exciting when they do new things, just like a human baby!

Thank you for the reassurance about my little guys strange behavior. It's nice to know he's not the only one acting this way. Let's keep each other posted if either of us figure out what the deal is!

Sorry to hear about your loss. It probably wouldn't hurt to clean things and start fresh. There cold be several things that may have cause that white substance. Respiratory or even a fungal infection of some sort. Also -- hatchlings can just die suddenly. This animal was missing limbs and sitting in a tub in Chinatown in October when you rescued him. All these things lead me to believe he probably had a pretty stressed immune system so anything might have taken his life. If anything you did something wonderful for him. You saved him from a certain death on the spot and gave him a comfortable happy life. However short it was he had a life that he deserved and didn't suffer in a tub on a street corner.
