doesn't abino (aka amelanism) mean there is no black pigment? So how can there be a black albino or is just a misnamed term for anery? (giving the pictures of snakes for anery below?

freezermink Jan 14, 2004 05:07 PM

albino refers simply to a lack of normal pigment. its non-specific as to which color, but its commonly directed toward the absence of black pigment. amelanistic refers to the common albino, a lack of black, or melanin. anerythrism is the lack of red pigment, hence, a black albino. i was a little confused as to this as well, so i went and asked a herp friend of mine and we actually looked it all up. prety interesting stuff. then he got into genetics and stuff and i was lost. heh.

>>Or red albino for that matter.
I would much rather see them referd to as what they are.
Amelanistic or Anerythristic..but that is just me.

whys this always got to come down to race?
heh. just kidding.

yes i agree. its just good to know what the terms are when you use them. a month ago i had no idea what anerythristic meant. but thanks to the forums and some friends i know a heck of a lot more about animals in general than before i joined.

thanks to all those who help out on this forum. truly a great resource.

Thanks for the clarification. Have to admit I like the looks of both amel and anery corns.
