My leopard tort just regurgitated. . . . . . .

fisherk2 Jan 13, 2004 05:51 PM

And I remember reading somewhere that any time a turtle or tort pukes something is seriously wrong. She's never done it before, and I didn't make and changes to her diet today that might have upset her stomach. Should I be worried?

Maybe it saw one of the cartoons on the website you posted.

(cartoon/comic dork mode on)

"illwillpress" is a talentless hack i ran across on newgrounds.com. he just rips off on the visual style of jhonen vasquez and acts as though he came up with it himself (which works fantastically when dealing with people who are unfamiliar with vasquez and shop at "hot topic".

bleh.

I'm sure my leopard tortoise will benefit greatly from your thoughts on internet pop culture.

i'm new to tort keeping, but i can only assume that vomiting is cause for concern. all i have to offer as far as the tort goes is to get him/her to an experienced herp vet for an expert opinion.

i'd also make sure it has plenty of available fluids (and soak him/her) to keep dehydration at bay, since a case of the pukeys can dehydrate anyone.

"internet pop culture," indeed... heh.

what kind of tort(s) do you have?

junior, my red-footed tortoise!

Well, nothing personal, but it was you who invited the input about the "pop culture" by posting your website with the lame, extremely stale (shtick about people driving with cell phones and guys in nightclubs with hairy chests and unbuttoned shirts? Gimme a break) unfunny cartoons on it. If you had just asked a tortoise question, you would have just received tortoise question answers.

You certainly have the right to post your website and show any crap you want to. And anyone looking at it has the right to their opinion about it.

worried about that, I've also heard directly from my vet that
a tortoise throwing up IS very serious. Watch for dehydration
now also, I would run it to a vet ASAP

If it was mine I would get pedialite (baby drink when they
have stomach problems) and add that to the water to drink
or you can even soak your tortoise in it - get the clear
regular formula, not grape flavored or anything. This is
available at any drugstore or Wal-mart in the baby section.

Hi,

Vomitting or regurgitation by tortoises is always something to be concerned about. Its causes are many and include, being too cold, stress, obstruction of the digestive tract, spolied or wrong types of food (I have tortoises vomit commercial products that are otherwise healthy and be fine right after), high levels of parasites. If vomitting was due to a parasite problem, it would likely have a very strong odor to it. I would have a fecal sample analyzed by your vet.

What temperatures are you keeping your tortoise at and what are you feeding it?

There is also an online community dedicated to the African tortoise, specifically Leopards and sulcata. You can get much insight there by joining the group at:
