I think i need some help !

UroFanatic24 Jan 13, 2004 07:19 PM

I've had my uro's since last March and have had a hard time with growth. When i got my male he was 46 grams and now he is 56 grams. He hasn't grown that much but he is chubby. When i got my female she was 46 grams and now she is only 48. That's a problem. I've have them on bird seed and they do burrow. If anyone has some help for me please write back.

Thanks
Ryan

check your temps, march is a very long time with almost no weight gain.

parasites could also be a problem so take them both to a vet asap.

make sure they are hydrated, spray the veggies before serving so they get some type of water in thier system.

i had my uro since october last year(03) and she already gained from 190 to 320 grams in just 3 months.

seems like a lot of weight but she was a little thin when i got her so she filled out very quickly.

My temps are fine. Basking area is 130, then when you move on down the tank it goes 85 then to 78. The temps are right. They don't have parasites and they have both been to the vet. They both had worms when i got them but they were put on medication. I spray water on their food every morning whgen i put it in. My male has been gaining weight but only 10 grams since then and my female only gained 2 so i know that's not good. What else could you think of ?

Here is a picture of my female (the 2 gram gainer) i cant remember how to post 2 pics.

that uro is a little thin, dont worry im not bashing you at all as atleast your trying so here it goes.

what veggies are fed to them?

remeber lettuce does nothing for them, kale, mustard greens ect. is all good.

get them mixed veggies, there cheap and should last about a week if not over used.

tank size?

two uro's need a big tank,i have my one in a 3x3x3 and i know not all people can afford such enclosures but atleast a 55 for them.

if you live close to me i will give you my 55 to keep as im not using it but you have to live in massachusetts or very close to mass in NH.

try diffrent foods, they like insects but cant be feed to many however this may get them to eat more by making them hungry.

do they have a hide box...mine loves it, not quite a burrow but does the job

hope this helps and if you live close to me i will peronally help you with them

The veggies they get are kale, collard greens, mustard greens, and endive. I know that lettuce has no value. They are in a 250 gallon tank, so i think im ok on that part. I've been trying wax worms but they have no interest in them anymore. They ate them when i first got them but i didnt give them all the time just a few like you are support to. They have plenty of hides in there tank. Thanks for the offer on the 55, I live in Ohio, that was relly nice of you. Read my post (up) about a uro in a bath tub and could you see if that should help. Here's a pic of Drakkin the male.
