Darnit! First eggs of the season...wasted!

Sybella Jan 13, 2004 09:59 PM

I discovered a pair of eggs last night but by the time I found them, they were already in horrible condition. I put them in moist vermiculite, hoping they'd swell back up but after 24 hours, they're still a sunken in mess. My leos have a moist hide but they didn't use it. Darn, darn, double-darn!!

Thanks for listening to me vent and pout.

Hmm...I'm not sure who laid them! LOL! It could have been one of my young ones or a second-seasoner. I have 9 girls in the tank with one male. I've caught them mating a few times but I didn't notice that any of the girls were gravid.

These eggs look a little transparent...I don't know how to describe it. I've had good king and corn eggs but these leo eggs don't look right to me. Maybe you're right and they aren't good. If that's the case, I feel a lot better about not finding them right away.

either infertiles or just no good, first year geeks and sometimes the first clutch of the year leos will throw some.. leo eggs are basically the same as corn and king eggs just smaller and a different size... i think i have a pic of some of my eggs to show you.
just an reminder.. i dont know how long you have had these geckos but if you notice any of the females laying are getting thin pull them..... i have not and know others whom havent had great sucess with harems... it seems like all the geeks end up stressing each other out or maybe its just the males urge of always having to mate em that stresses em. also, give it about a week butthen turn over all the females so you can look at their tummies and you can see the eggs inside of her... that way you will know which gecko it is thats gravid

Hahahahaha, Robin you crack me up. I'm thinking she'd have to chase me a looong ways before I got stressed, lol.

Anyway, I just had to post that before... it was too good to pass up.

LMAO!! I think that's precisely the point, Jeff!

I'm sure you're right on this but I thought I'd hold them for a bit to make sure before I threw them away...just in case. Heck, I'm just fooling myself and I know it. LOL!

About the harem set up, normally I give them all their own boxes but now that it is cold, I put them all in a tank to make sure they all had access to a large heat pad. As soon as it warms up a bit, or my shoebox rack gets made (whichever comes first), I'll seperate them again.
