Herping in FL?

BradP Jun 05, 2003 04:52 PM

Hoping to get some clarification on FL herp laws. I would like to come down and collect some snakes, which I hope will end up at a college (where I did work and my wife now works). Am I correct in that I don't need a permit to hunt for snakes in FL? What about taking them across state lines back north? One more, when does the price for hots go from 5 to 100? It still says 5 on the webpage. Thanks for any help.

My renewal is in July and I was told by a lady on the phone it was going to be 100$. I hope she was mistaken. By the way I would not kill a snake with or without a permit. You need a permit to capture venomous. For nonvenomous you don't need a permit for personal use but do need one for sale purposes. At least that is what I understand.Buddy.

Thanks for the fast reply. I should have specified that the snakes would not be killed to be put into a collection. They would be kept in zoology lab for basic research, display, and possibly breeding. At the time of their death they would be put into the collection, that would be the purpose of collecting a few wild caught, common species instead of buying snakes (we are a small school and I doubt we could get snake purchases funded anyway) That run down was pretty much how I understood it from FL Game and Fish web site. Thanks again.
