Aust. Water Dragon Feeding Questions[u/]

gettinfunkyinct Feb 09, 2003 10:57 AM

I have never seen my 3 dragons eat and they were hatched out in July. They are growing even though one is 3 times larger that the smallest. i feed them crickets, wax worms and I just went out today to get some small earthworms from a bait shop along with a live pinkie for the largest. Does everyone seem to have the same problem with them being shy?

I have 2 adult AWDs and I feed them mealworms and waxworms out of a large ceramic dish. They just eat as they please that way. Crickets seem to make them nervous since they are flighty lizards.

I was wondering too... Do you house them all together? Beardies and frilled dragons can dominate eachother for food while the others waste away. Have you tried setting them up seperately?

Hello Everyone,

I have another question as to the substrate I should be using for the Australian Water dragons? For the 1st 6 months I used sand but got scared that it would bind their stomachs so i went with an organic top soil. They have been on the soil for the past 6-8 months and are doing fine. The tank and their water hole seems to get dirty FAST though! I was wondering if it was OK to have them on SAND, whether biting @ crickets and eating some sand would be a problem...
Any recommendations as to how you can keep their water hole cleaner? (water pump or fountain?) The water hole is a pain to change ALL the time!!!

Talk to ya' soon!
