How Much Food??

LizzardHands Jun 05, 2003 05:07 PM

I recently got a Leopard Gecko, a juvi, but since I got it from a pet shop, I'm not exactly sure how old it is. She's still got her stripes, they haven't broken to spots yet, and she's about 3-3.5 inches long. I was just wondering about how many crickets (she prefers over worms) she should get a day. I don't to underfeed her but I've been told that overfeeding can be just as bad for her.

I have a baby patternless that is about 4 inches long. I asked the same question and was told to just feed her as much as she will eat. My patternless eats anywhere from 10-15 baby crickets a night...it's incredible.

Here is a pic of her.

Feed her as much as she'll eat. Around 10 small crickets a night is a healthy amount for a baby, since they eat like crazy. Dont worry if she doesnt eat that much, it doesnt mean somethings wrong though it could mean that. Whats your set up like? If you could describe you tank(temp, hides ect) we could help you improve it if it needs to be improved. Read some caresheets? make sure there are no unanswered questions, we'll be glad to answer anything. L8er

Yeah, the people here are great. When I first had a couple problems I went into a few chat rooms for people who keep reptiles and the attitude I got from them was if I didn't know the answers to my own questions already then I shouldn't have gotten the lizzard. Then I found this site and everyone's been really nice and very helpful. I don't think I could raise Gummi(my leopard gecko) without the help of the people on this forum. =)

it's some what true, in my opinion, that some of the questions asked on this forum should have been researched before the purchasing of the gecko. any new pet must be researched thoroughly, but it's better that they ask here instead of a lot of pet stores. i am often suprised by the questions people ask here, but atleast theyre trying.

I have a 10gallon tank, with repti-sand, an undertank heater for heat at night, a heat lamp for heat during the day, keeps the warm end about 86-87 and the cool end at about 80, There's a hide box, a stone-like waterdish, and a small dish for the food. It's nothing very extravagent but my plan is to add things to it as I can afford them. I bought two books, have a file of about 20-some caresheets from all over the net, an info packet from the pet store I got her from, and I bought a starter kit that came with the majority of the beginning necessities for raising leopard geckos. I think that's about it, =)

The only thing i can recomend is you put a calcium dish in there. They will lick it up as needed, and since you have repti sand in there, she'll eat the sand instead and bam youve got a impacted gecko. you might wanna change to repti carpet and paper towels until shes older, though theres still a risk of impaction and its your decision really, l8er
