Stupid question regarding toads

reptileszz Jan 14, 2004 07:04 AM

Hi all, I suspect this is a stupid/silly question. I am wondering if it is at all possible to use a marine toad or rococo toad to scent pinkies with to feed baby W. Hognoses.

I sort of suspect that I should not use something that comes from outside their range and that they would not be able to fit in their mouths if they came across one anyway. Toxins?

Thanks,
Carole

well they are supposed to be deadly, but I guess hognoses should be immune. Sounds risky since it is out of the range.

Hey where did you get a marine toad? Australia?

Colchicine Jan 14, 2004 10:44 AM

Since they are toxic at all life stages, and are known to kill most all of their predators in Australia, I certainly would not take the risk!

BTW, ghettozoohouse, Cane toads are not native to Australia, but are to Central and South America. They have been introduced into Florida and it is not at all hard to get them.

they are the same as the marine toad that has taken over Australia right?
Maybe I'm mistaken.
They were exported over there.
Hey do they make good pets?

Yes, that is the same as the marine toad, also the giant toad. Although my experience with keeping cane toads has been very bad, others seem to think they make good pets.

I was thinking of getting one. My thinking was Bufo = good, big Bufo = better. Then I realized I couldn't afford to feed it. Now I'm wondering if I could feed it mice, but I'm happy with my little toad.
