does anyone make a 2 incand. bulb hood?

mbmcewen Jan 14, 2004 01:47 PM

I know All-glass makes an incandescent hood, but I don't know how many bulbs it holds. I want to put two screw in compact fluor bulbs in it.

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

All-glass aquariums makes incandescant light fixtures that hold 2 incandescant bulbs. ESU also makes a large fixture that holes 2 incandescant bulbs and 1 flourescant tube. I think that all-glass only makes the incandescant fixtures up to 30 inches in length, although I could be wrong about that.

I have one of the ESU hoods on one of my reptile cages. I like it a lot. It's called the Combo Light. They come in different measurements, and the size dictates how many bulbs are in each. My 48" one holds fixtures for four incandecents (or screw in CF) and one fluorescent tube. I think the smallest one is 20".

I will check that out. I would rather just buy something than make it.

I think your going to have to raise the double light plug an inch or so higher though, as the compacts wont fit. Your going to have to remove the protective plastic coating, and use wood or something similar to fill its place.

I was worried that they may be to large in diameter. I will go by petco and look, but I figure I may have to build my own hood.

The Screw in Compact flourescents don't fit into the ESU combo light strip?

Just buy 2 shop lights at home depot for $5-10 and then put the compacts in that. At least I am going to try that...

retrofitting costs almost as much as just buying the fixtures....I am trying to get some of the benefits of cf without the high cost
