sheds and hatchlings..

twistedgalaxy Jan 14, 2004 03:12 PM

Last night was my Blizzard's first [and successful] shed in my care! I knew it was coming and was glad to see everything OK the next morning, though she knocked over many many things. d;

I take an animal husbandry class, where they keep quite a few leopard geckos. Today they had day-old hatchlings, and boy are they small! It was the first time I've seen such young leopard geckos.. and they are also very cute!

What do geckos that young eat? Just smaller versions of adult's food?

Hatchlings will eat very small sized prey. Tiny little crickets and mealworms. You can get the specific size of cricket you need for hatchlings online. If you breed your own mealworms you can feed them the small ones instead of the full grown ones. It would be best to feed them the mealworms that have just shed. They will be white, kind of like an albino mealworm. They will be much easier for a baby leo to digest since its so young.

Right, I thought it would have to be something softer then usual. Thanks!
