Reptile mat/carpets....

dasnakeguy Jan 14, 2004 03:56 PM

Hello, I'm looking for a type of carpet/mat for my beardies. I currently use paper towels but I just got a new bigger beardie and he tends to tear up the towels and wringles them up. I looking for something that will stay in place and is both easy and cheap to clean and replace. I know some of you get something from Wal-Mart but I can't remember what it was. If you can pass on the information that would be great. Or if anyone else has some good experience with some other carpet/mat please let me know. Thank you in advance.

I know of a number of people who use reptile carpets and like them. I have never used them and use either carefresh (recycled paper product), or ESU lizard litter, both of which I am very happy with and they allow spot-cleaning.
If you go for the carpet option, you will need to clean it frequently, and it takes a while to dry and so you will probably need to buy two so you can replace one while it is drying.

It's shelf liner made by Duck. Around 5 bucks for a 4ft roll of the stuff.

Duck brand shelf liner from Walmart works awesome. It's very sanitary, easy to clean and replace, and has rubber backing to prevent slipping.

Just make sure to be very careful how you clean it. Mattman has good instructions and tips on his site under care sheet. Here's the link:

Be sure to get the thick rubbery kind, NOT the adhesive kind. I made the mistake of buying the stuff with adhesive and the smell was so strong I didn't dare use it in my cage. Anything that smells that much like chemicals can't be good! I ended up going back to buy the right kind, but I couldn't return the other stuff after I'd opened it. So don't make the mistake I did.
