Question on Pro Products Heat Panel

Cito Jan 14, 2004 04:43 PM

I'm considering purchasing a heat panel from pro products for my vision 422. I have heard nothing but good about these things (especially from Carmichael) and I have heard that they are the best heat source on the market. For the 4 foot vision I have, they recommended the PH-12, 88 watt, 12" x 24". Does that sound about right? It also costs $120 which seems like a ton to me...Also, how can one panel on the left side of the enclosure create such a great thermal gradient I have been hearing about. Wouldn't all the heat just stay at the left end like a heat lamp? Is this really worth the investment, because me heat pads and heat lamp are working fine for right now. Should I just wait until I get a bigger cage or would it really be in the best interest to get one now?

I JUST BOUGHT THAT EXACT HEAT PANEL FOR ONE OF MY 4 FOOT CAGES. I MOUNTED IT ON THE TOP. I ALSO BOUGHT A BIG APPLE THERMOSTAT TO CONTROL THE TEMP. (A MUST). I TELL YA I LOVE IT THE PRICE IS SO WORTH IT. THE HEAT WILL RADIATE DOWN WHICH MAKES A GOOD BASKING SPOT ( MINE IS 93 ) BUT I SET UP THE PROBE IN THE OTHER END OF THE CAGE AND SET MY THERMOSTAT TO 85 DEGREES. I REALLY RECOMEND THESE HEAT PANELS

Is your 4 foot cage a vision? On my vision I tried to find a spot that was flat that I could put a panel thats 24"x 12". It would be ideal to put it on the spot next to the heat lamp, but it would not fit there becuase there is a groove and stuff and the surface has to be flat right? The only spot it would fit is on the opposite end of the cage which means I would have to completley re-do my set up.

I just purchased mine today. I have a 6ft vision and I ordered the PH-125. I'll let you know how they work out. I should be getting them this coming Monday or Tuesday. I'm super hyped!!!
I also have nothing but great things about this product. It seems those Pro-Products are on to something. they have the only PROVEN mite treatment/prevention product out there, great misting system, and the heat panels (don't have much info on any other of their products).

I also have a six foot Vision cage, and I'm considering ordering a PH-125 too. My only stipulation is that I don't know how I can best set it up in the cage. The end with the light shroud is the end I keep warmer (which just makes sense to me). I don't see how I can mount the heat panel on that end if the light shroud is in the way. What do you plan on doing?

Thats exactly what my problem was that I asked in the post above. According to the guy pro-products, the heat panels will supply enough heat for the entire cage and it would be a sole heat source. I do find this kind of hard to believe which is why I am wondering how it worked out for other people with visions. Thats one of the things I dont like about my vision, all the ridges and things that prevent you from putting things on flat.

Hey Cito,
The ProProduct HP, are the best in my opinion on the market bar none. I know that Robyn has had some burn out on him and has had some problems trying to get them to cover either the replacement or the reimbursement of the product in question. However, I've spoken to Bob over at ProProduct, and he has assured me that the HP's, have been improved and have been corrected to where the old problem that Robyn had experienced, is no longer an issue.

I would definately go with the ProProduct, but that's just me being biased and not really knowing the Helix product (HP) as well. I do love their Thermo-controllers (DBS1000, Basic) a lot and wouldn't use any other. As for the question you asked about whether the heat panel would be enough to heat a cage, believe you me! there is nothing more reliable than these products for heat. They put out more heat than you can imagine. I however, would not sit the thermostat probe on the cool end like someone else described, as the temperatures you want to control are right under the heat panel (the heat can spiral out of control). The heat will cool off some by the time it reaches the other end (creating a gradient), and will keep the other half within a marketedly high temperature relative to the hot spot under the heat panel. I have mine reading 88-90 under that heat panel and on the other end it reads in the low 80's.

Anyhow, hope you find what you are looking for and figure it out sooner or later.
