Question about a humid hide.

Insideoutsider13 Jan 14, 2004 05:14 PM

I have a breeding pair of geckos and I am looking into what types of bedding to use in a humid hide for when she will lay her eggs and such. Is it ok if I use bed-a-beast or eco earth for the hide or should I use vermiculite or pearlite? I know that they are better than the bed-a-beast or eco earth but the eco earth is most accessible to me. If anyone knows about the hazards of any of these please tell me. (I am also talking about vermiculite or pearlite that has no chemicals, so that is not a worry.)

use moss for the humid hide then use vermiculite after the eggs are layed

I only know 3 ways to do things.
The right way.
The wrong way.
And my way which is the wrong way only faster.

Ryan: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Mick: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?!

Ryan:Help me someone i have a mortal wound!
[Kyle runs over]Kyle:Where does it hurt?
Ryan:Oh i would have to say.....IT HURTS IN THAT BIG BLOODY HOLE STUPID!!!

But would eco earth work well temporarily? Or are there hazards?

When my girl Aurora was laying I used bed-a-beast through the whole 7 months she was laying and never had a problem. I'm no experienced breeder but she never had a problem laying in it, so if you can get some of that it would work. I'm not sure what eco earth is, but if its just a different brand of bed a beast it'll work. Good luck

Yeah, eco earth is just a different make of bed-a-beast. They are both ground coconut fibers, the only difference is the locations of where you can buy them. I believe bed-a-beast is more of a western states product and eco earth is more eastern.
