my Lulu is so smart...

lele Jan 14, 2004 05:58 PM

...yes, her nickname is Lulu. When I greet her in the morning I was saying Luna Lu! so sometimes, she is lulu

OK, about the genius who owns the genius cham...She tells me when she is winding down her day. Around 5:30 or so she will look at me, and then look up. She will do this several times (not as much now since I caught on!) until I turn off her basking light. She will then move about 1/2 way along her branches to her sleeping spot. About 15 mins. to 1/2 hour later she will look up again which says - OK, lights out! She then finishes her walk (right now it is more a drag) to her roost. I then turn off all the herp lights and if I stay in the room I will cover the cages about 10 minutes later - after everyone is settled in (except Jamaica - I don't think she ever sleeps - she is always on the lookout!)

I set her up with the new MVB today, which involved taking off the "closet" she is in. I also moved her laying tub to a different location and put a light on it - I think she was eyeballing it before lights out tonight. She kept looking down -now was this b/c she wanted THAT light off, too or b/c she saw down into the deep dark jungle for the first time - she will tell me tomorrow...

Has anyone ever done a study on the intelligence of Chams? I would very much like to know about just how smart are these ones we love. It is so interesting to me to think that they could possibly communicate to us to a degree. How do they compare to say a pet bird(granted the IQs differ quite some from bird to bird)? My pet birds always communicated to me using body language and I always understood the simple feelings at least, and less complex requests for companionship. Perhaps my hope is that one day the solitary creature will be in need of me on a level greater then physical care, but then, I regress to anthropomorphisizing for my own need of their companionship. Ah, I hope at minimum my Cham will find me somewhat tolerable when he arrives, and your story gives me something pleasant to dream about. Maggie
