Leopard tortoise and Sulcata's - Do they get along

cswartz Jan 14, 2004 06:41 PM

I have two Leopard tortoises and just bought a Sulcata and it seems as though the sulcata is biting at the Leopard's shell, feet, and head. Is this because they don't get along or is the Sulcata just checking out his new friends? Please help me out on this issue

Thanks

Clayton

ideally you would not mix species, quarantine a new animal
for a min of 3 months and keep the sulcata seperately anyways.
They become very domineering (especially to generally timid
leopards) and eventually agressive. Sulcatas don't want or
need "friends". Don't risk the health of you established
leopards like that.

You have to be careful assigning human ideas to tortoises. Tortoises don't have or need "friends." The sulcata's "friends" are competitors for food and evolution has taught the sulcata that the more aggressive tortoise survives to breed on.

Mixing species is generally not recommended, especially in limited space.
