New Baby Burm Setup Opinion Wanted Thank-You!

beardeddragon357 Jan 14, 2004 07:26 PM

Hi,
I am going to be purchasing a new baby burm soon and I would like your opinion about his housing. I have already purchased a 40 gallon breeder tank (36"L 18"W 16"H). I was curious as too what size snake this could adequately house? I think it is good for a hatchling but,i think that maybe anything over 5 feet might be cramped. At which that time I would upgrade. Please let me have your opinions on the size of the tank. Also i was thinking at that time go to animal plastics cages? Would anyone happen to have experience with them and/or their web address?
Thank-You very much
Tyler

Well as far as the size of your tank. I would say 5ft or 6ft would be ok in that. It should be half the lenght of the snake and the snake should be able to make a 0 type shape, thats what the book says. Problem you get into is it can push out. At those sizes the snake gets stronger and if the screen top is not high enough it can get enough strenght and pop out. I have mine in a 5ft long glass tank by like 2 ft. She is 7 ft now and has plenty of room. The tank is about 3 ft high as well I think or 2.5 feet. Anyways, she is pretty comfortable in there. Although I have heard horror stories about burms breaking glass and getting out. And right now with the two sliding locking screen tops on it, I will be moving her into a 6ft vision. The baby burm could reach that size in about 7, 8 months. But some people get them to grow alot quicker when fed more. I would say you where ok for now. I have never used the brand you are talking about but am in the market for a bigger cage so I would like to see what others say. What kind of burm, reg, green , albino, granite. Not that it matters just wondering.

I will be getting an albino green burm hoefully wednesday (cross fingers). any ways I had already thought about pushing the cage screen off so I purposly bought a tank with a built in screen lid with locking mechanism so I could prevent the worst.
THANX for all the replies

They have one of the best cages on the market. Their price is great, their customer service is unmatched by anyother. I do not own one yet, but I have called them few times to ask some questions, and they have been extremely helpful.

I too have my burm in a 40 breeder, and he is about 4.5 feet. It is really east for me to control the humidity, I only have to spray it about every 4-5 days. I am hoping it will hold him for another 2-3 months until I order my AP cage.

You will not be unhappy with Animal Plastic Cages.

Good Luck,

I checked it out, looks good, I wish they had stores that sold these. Shipping kills you

To be honest with you the shipping is next to nothing. Have you ever tried to order a Vision? Their shipping is ridiculous. When you are paying $350 for a cage and then $155 for shipping, then you can complain about shipping charges. You are paying less for the cage, and about 1/3 the cost of shipping, you really can't complain.

Vision 622 - 72"W x 28"D x 18"H- The cage for large constrictors. The unit has space for two heat domes and is large enough to breed 1 male to 2 female adult boas. Also great for retics and Burmese pythons. - $349

T20 - 72"L x 24"D x 24"H - Solid top, No screen. - $330 - SHIPPING WILL NOT EXCEED $65. I am looking at the T20, which is about the same size as the Vision 622.

Try and call LLLReptile and see how much the shipping charge is on the 622. I believe the last time I checked it was about $155.

You cannot beat the Customer Service and price for an AP Cage. If you can, you let me know who?!
