veiled cham set up

chamoti4 Jun 05, 2003 06:11 PM

I have whats seems to be a 2 month old veiled. When I got him he was 1 month old a tiny thing. I kept him in a tank for the time being seeing he was so small. Well last week I brought him a cage.( there are not a lot of cages for chams if you don't build it yourself) anyhow I got this bird cage looking thing with veritcal bars. I set up the cage looking great, leaves, branches the whole bit. When I put Ernie (my cham) in he was looking around climbing then stuck his head though the bars and squezzed his was out. I really didn't think he could do that. I ended up going to home depo and getting screen to wire all around the cage.
So now he is in his new cage. The two dome lights (one spiral florecesnt, one basking) look ugly sitting on top of the cage. Is there away to get a aquarium top to set on top of the cage.
Thanks

Well, you will need 2 types of lights regardless, and an aquarium hood won't accomodate the incandescent bulb. Why not just build a decorative wood border that hides all the stuff on top? It would be like an open topped box leaving the top open for heat release.

Zoo Med makes a combo light that might do the trick for you. ESU also makes something similar.

Hope this helps.
