Ready to LAY??

kg Jan 14, 2004 08:02 PM

Suzy's been refusing food for the past couple days and I can feel the eggs in her tummy. I put a laying box in her tank and it's obvious she's been digging around, but she still hasn't laid anything. Will she lay her eggs within the next couple days? I'm very excited/scared.. I have the incubator set-up and ready to go and now I'm just waiting for her to pop 'em out. I hope I don't screw things up too much..

sounds like she's ready to lay. how deep is the next box? i'd recommend 12-14". you can try partially digging the hole for her and make sure the tunnel won't collapse on her.

one of my females digs everywhere in the cage except for the nest box. once i dig a hole (about 8-10 inches deep) and show it to her, she goes to work and lays her eggs. if you try digging the hole, start at one corner of the nest box, dig down a few inches, then angle the hole toward the opposite bottom corner. pop her down in the hole and see what she does.

if she's not interested in your hole, try just making a smaller indent and keep showing it to her.
