My tortoise has a wound please help

adiajsl Jan 14, 2004 08:19 PM

I noticed a would on my tortoises neck. I am 99 percent sure that it is not from another tortoise, but I do not know where she got it. I believe she ate today, so I do not think there is a loss of appetite. I cleaned the would with betadine. I was wondering if there was something else that I could put on the wound to heal it. Should I use an antibiotic ointment or will this slow the healing process? Any help would be appreciated!

Triple antibiotic ointment (get the generic - much cheaper, but also known as Neosporin ointment) works very well on turtle wounds (many years' experience). Continue your Betadine (also cheaper as iodine-povidone solution) cleaning and then apply triple antibiotic ointment afterwards.
