I can't FIND my Crested!!! HELP!! Looked everywhere.....

Moonlight_pets Jan 14, 2004 09:02 PM

Hi,
One night when I was in a rush feed all my cresteds and left. Well the following morning I saw the lid WIDE open. I freaked out and search the entire room. Under, over, up, down, in ....nothing.

He is a large 8" and a bit. He is about 2 years old. I have ripped apart my whole house during the day and the night.

I have a cat too, but if she were to get him she wouldn't eat him. She is use to the animals and is afraid of them. Besides she doesn't even eat the crickets she finds...she just stomps on them and walks away. Plus I would have saw blood somewhere (she often leaves things in the middle of the floor).

Any places they tend to go? I can think of where else to look. Well my basement...there is so many boxes. If I was a gecko I wouldn't go down there. It's too cold.

I kept him in the guest room and we have a 2 story house. He has been missing for at least a week and a half if not 2 weeks.

I've even sat in every room at night listening. You think we would have seen him run across a wall or something...lol

Anyway, how long do you think he can go? I'm sure there is LOTS of crickets running around.

I'm so upset and worried. It's all my fault I should have slowed down...

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Liz

a week and a half is a while. have you left out water or anything for him? did you check places like curtains? (i'm sure you know they tend to climb) i hope you find him.

I know it is a long time...I'm beginning to think I won't see him again.

I haven't checked curtains because...well....we don't have any. We've only been in this house a few months.

I think I'm going to have another tear down tonight.

Well my cat's dish is on the floor and that's water. Not sure if he would drink out of it.

I wonder if I were to get some live animal traps if that would work?? Geez....I'd feel horrible if he hurt himself....heck I feel horrible now anyway.

Thanks for your post!

Hey wait a second, my house gecko escaped onece and I didn't catch him for 6 months!

Well that gives me some hope. I bet he was thin when you found him though...

I would put out small dishes of his favourite babyfood and keep the cat in one room for the night so she won't eat the babyfood. If the gecko is still around he may find the babyfood and eat it. This would give you an ideal at least, what room he is in. I don't think they would roam too far away. There is the possibility the cat did eat him and I doubt there would be much blood left behind if she did. Hopefully the gecko stayed high enough to avoid the cat and is still around.

I miss him!! He was such a beautiful Orange Tiger. He made great looking babies too.

Your best bet is to look at night like your doing, because that's when he'll come out and look around. I don't think your cat would eat it either, they usually just leave the dead animal in the middle of the floor, like u said too. But I owuld still be careful..you never know. Is there any way your crestie could've gotten outside or out a window? Even if the basement is cold, still be careful also. He might just wander in there from curiostiy and not realize how cold it is and get lost in the boxes. I know when I lost oneof my baby bearded dragons in our huge basement I looked all over for her and I couldnt find her. One day I came home ans she was waiting in from of the door of the reptile room, tyring to get in because of the heat. Create a little place where your lizard would want to go in each room to get an idea of where he is. Like it was mentioned before, put soem baby food ina little dish on the floor and maybe some source of heat.
And dont give up hope so soon, these little guys can survive for a long time, they're tricky little things, just keep your eye out. Good Luck.

with crickets in it. Count how many you put in and see if he takes any. Also look to see if you find some of his droppings anywhere. It may give you a clue as to which room he is in.
Mine was lost for several days and he stayed pretty near his cage.

I haven't seen anything.

I've saw in a book on how to set up live traps, but he can climb out of all of them. Well I get if it has been knocked over or something then I would know.

*Sigh* I'm so sad. You actually don't realize how much you love your pets until they go missing.

Thanks again,
Liz
