Sorry friend. Yellows have been found as far north (up the coast) as Maryland (There are records of two being captured in St. Mary's County in 1928 and 1930). So there is no question that Georgia would consider them endemnic.

If I remember right, Blacks, Grays, and Yellows are all native to parts of GA. If is the stripes that you like, there is always a Baird's Rat Snake. Or if it is the yellow color you like, take a look at a Trans-Pecos Ratsnake. If you want a Elaphe obsoleta sp., there is the Texas Rat Snake and the Everglades Ratsnake. It is easy to find pictures of these snakes on the net. I have Texas, Black, Yellow, and Gray Rat Snakes at this time, and they all have about the same temperment. I always get mine soon after hatching, so that they are easy to tame.
The best of luck to you.
Its sad that Ga has some of the most messed up laws. We cannot own eastern kings or even a harmless corn snake. Last I heard this law was in the process of being changed. After college I plan to move out of Ga and to Florida. Pet shop trade is really suffering cuz of the messed up laws.

thats funny you say that about the petstores, i dont know what area of ga you live in, but in my area (N.atlanta) the shops and large chain stores (you know the ones..) have all started selling corns and yellow rats. so far i havent seen the DNR coming in, guns blazing yet. georgia is due for some new laws all around the table. if you want to check out the petstore in 'a certain mall in Kennesaw', i believe there is a CB baby yellow rat in there.
Really maybe Ga's laws are changing for the better. Until I know for a fact that I can have corns or even the yellow rat snakes I am going to play it safe and not have them.
for $59 a year you can get a special permit to have native nonvenomous snakes but you cant breed them and you must only use them for education purposes. you also must also document your hours too spent doing the education thing. I rather wait till I move to Florida at least there I know I can corns, eastern kings and yellow ratsnakes.

I found this guy sunning back in Nov. Better be careful too. Who knows if Georgia even recognizes subspecies.
