Strongyles Question

DoorGunner Jan 14, 2004 10:44 PM

I have a WC black rat snake that a fecal float showed has strongyles. The vet prescribed panacur @ 0.3 ML by mouth every two weeks for 3 treatments. He's still having weird and bad smelling stools (if they're not regurges). His appetite is good but he's not putting on the weight like I'd hoped. Does it usually take the full 3 treatments to be effective? Is it okay to feed the same day after treating? Any help would be appreciated.

a stool sample should be checked at the end of the treatment. I've seen some snakes with heavy infections need a second round of treatment. Also, strongyles are often not alone, if someone other than a vet is doing the fecal, get a second opinion.
