unidentified snake

kevin Jan 14, 2004 10:58 PM

hi,
last week i purchased a very interesting snake from a reptile show,
i have no idea what this snake is and i thought i knew every snake, knobody at regal reptiles knew what it was.
from the looks of it i would guess it is some diurnal south american rear fanged racer like snake or tree snake.
he is beutifuly patterned with a green yellow belly, a green face with a blue head, large eyes, pink mouth, a dark colored line runs down its spine his whole body., he fades to a brown.
i am very curious of what this is and any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Kevin

How certain are you of it's locality? Could it be central American? There are possibilities there, so If you can supply a more exact location I will see what I cn find.

If you'd like to compare, I have Vicious's pictures up in my Yahoo photo album.

Like you, I acquired, then tried to identify her and posted here for help. Everyone here helped me narrow her down to the Psammphis family but I never could get it nailed down any more precisely.

I just renamed the pictures...they were "Mystery Snake" before. LOL! I should take new pictures. She's plumper now, not as thin.

bit the crap out of her previous owner. That's why he sent her to me...he couldn't stand her! LOL! The funniest part is, she's never shown a hint of agression with me.

Philodryas Jan 17, 2004 10:14 AM

Hi. By the looks of it i would say it's a Philodryas aestivus. It's very common with the blue "stains" in this snakes.

I'm not sure, the picture is quite dark but you can compare it with some of my old snakes. http://www.zoonen.com/perzoonen/galleri.asp?oid=7430&gid=86127

It looks like a Chironius to me, maybe Drymoluber. Do some scale counts and email me them, and I should be able to ID the snake for you.

I dont think its a Chironius or Drymoluber. I think its a Philodryas. Maybe P.aestivus, like said by philodryas in other message. But likes a bit with P.olfersii, but mine are diferent.
