Power Feeding - Positive or Negative

GregBraidE Jan 14, 2004 11:08 PM

I have heard and read that if you feed your snake lets say 2 mice per meal instead of one it will enhance the growth of it, however is there any negative to doing this- in other words should I maintain a regular diet of 1 mouse per week or can I increase it to two mice...I have done this in the past a few times and my snake didn't seem to mind, I'm just curious for the well being of the snake. Thank you and all replies are appreciated.

No reason to powerfeed a corn. Most people powerfeed out of greed, how fast they can turn there investment around. It's also hard on the snakes, liver, etc, etc.I cant see were it would hurt to feed your snake twice a week if it's still a juvie. When they turn adults it just makes them fat and lifeless. My adult amels get fed every 2 to 3 weeks and only a mouse and i still think there a little on the chubby side...Paul.

my corn is about a year old now, and how about if I feed it one mouse and like a pinkie a week, or should I just stick to the regular one mouse every 1-2 weeks?

are there any other HEALTHY things I can feed my snake, I heard anoles are eaten in the wild but carry parasites that can be harmful to a captive snake, I also was wondering about goldfish, gerbils, and quail eggs - I've heard of all the following being used, just tryna figure out if any are more beneficial. Quail eggs I know have more protien but the ones from the grocery store are treated for humans - so are they safe to use for the snake as well? Gerbils are also higher in protien but I don't know if there suitable for a corns diet i know for other snakes they are. Thanks for all your responses in advance.

Stick with mice or rat pups, maybe as a treat a small rat when it gets older.I will sometimes give my corns a treat like 2 mice once and awhile .If you want a big fat snake try a blood python...Paul.
