Introducing females......tips welcome

RedQuake Jan 14, 2004 11:29 PM

Hi all, well i finally got some pics developed.....i'll post them tomorrow. In the mean time i'm planning on housing Dot and Abby together. They were together in the 40 gal albeit with a divider but Dot always ended up on Abby's side and they never fought. I've purchased a 20 gal long tank and all new materials for it. I know that if they are both introduced to a new tank they should be ok but i have a couple of questions.

Can i put in some of the hides that they have now? They each have a few hides that they always use and they have their own humid hides. Is it ok to put in those things into the new tank or should i start completely new with everything?

Also, Bronx and Nala were infact mixed up. I finally was able to get Bronx out of the tank and take a good look, this time without being peed on LOL. He is a SHE LOL so that explains alot about Nalas behaviour.....she is a he. It also explains why Boo would go ape when Nala freaked out and started screaming...he was hearing another male. Anyways now that i know for sure, i am going to put Lily and the female blizzard togehter (switching the names is so confusing now...but she will be called Nala i guess). They are the same size.

Thanks for your help

I guess that makes sense now. Were they mislabeled when you got them?

They should be fine if you use the old hides, but it might be a good idea to wash them before putting them into the new tank. I'm not sure if it does anything to help them get oriented in their new surroundings, but I'm just in the habit of washing any furniture that goes into a new tank.

I met with the breeder to pick them up and she showed me which was male and which was female......but i think i got them mixed during transport. They were still very small and had been temp sexed so there was still a chance i might end up with the opposite of what i thought i had. I'm just happy i have a male and female although the male is very agressive towards me, so i hope he calms down a bit. I don't want him hurting my girl.

Thankyou for your suggestion. I'll do that for sure. I just bought the tank yesterday and it won't be until Sunday that it gets set up. I have some work to do on the gecko unit first before putting in anymore tanks.
