A question for all of the fellow kingsnake afficianados?

electricbluescat Jan 14, 2004 11:49 PM

What is your favorite kind of kingsnake and color morph? I will start this off mine would have to be the california kingsnake.
Simply because of the diversity in coloration. My favorite morph would have to be the desert banded, desert striped or the designer high whites. lol I love them all the same its a tough one.

I've always loved the crisp bands of a black and white banded Cal King - a really good looking snake like that is one of the most gorgeous kings around. Of course you're talking to a guy who has a motorcycle that's strictly chrome and black, so...! I like the contrast.

But my favorite snake is the mac daddy of kings, the Eastern Kingsnake; but really the big "3," the Eastern, Florida Kings, and the blotched King (to include whatever the "real" Apalachicola King will be called).

Now, at one time Hillson was "brooksi" this and "brooksi" that, and I mean all the time! LOL I used to razz him on here that Easterns were tougher snakes and when he was going to move on to a "real" kingsnake LOL Of course he already had some but I'd give him shi$ because all he'd talk about was floridana!

Now he's got a killer site on Easterns - I guess it goes to show that even Wisconsin Badger Fans (LOL) can change!

I love eastern kings too. But because of native wildlife laws where I live in Ga I cannot have them or even corn snakes. Talk about some lame laws. Thats why after college I plan on moving to Florida.

I know that it's on the books in GA that it's against the law to kill any non-venemous snakes but that don't do dic# for snakes.
I had guys tell me that all they had to say was they thought it was a rattlesnake or cottonmouth and that was it...truth is how could you prove that someone - say the average Joe - knows snakes to a judge? Not likely which means that the law sounds great but I wonder how effective it really is?

I've seen stripped D'Backs on more than one ocassion while botanizing in Thomas, Grady, Colquitt, and Brooks Co., GA. Just a piece of meat laying the road taken for its skin or just the head in some cases...idiots.

Then they have a law like that in a GA County prohibiting corn one from keeping corn snakes? I mean corns and rats occur all over the SE?!

North Florida is a great place to live if you're from GA and understand the South...plenty of herps and other two-legged creatures to hunt for!

Ga also has some giant eastern kings in the south of the state. I think the law should be changed and allow only captive bred or a certain species of snakes you could have and a set number on the amount you can take. Florida has much a brigther future for me and my snakes. oh forgot to add Florida has alot of women too lol.

Well I lean towards the Eastern US ranging Getula. I do like all of them though plus I have other snakes like Hondurans and a Yellowtail Cribo. Hey Hays Im no Badger fan GO Blue all the way just for the record I despise the Packers as well.

I got him November sometime from Dean Alessandrini's animals. He is a nice one with great color and a super disposition as well.

Keith do you ever go to the Daytona Expo?
I love eastern kingsnakes but I can't have them in Ga cuz of the native species laws. I contacted the dnr about 20 minutes asked them questoins about the laws. I found out I can get a permit for $59 dollars a year and I could use corn snakes or eastern kings for education. I asked them then if I could breed them for education purposes like colleges and zoos and they told me no. So I think in the long run I would better off to wait till move to Florida. whats your opinion on these crazy laws in Georgia? I would also have to document the hours I spent using the animals for education.

I like him. Are you going to start another breeding project or is he a specimen?

That NJ Eastern I got form you is doing very well. He's up to about 18" and has always been a very eager eater. I can't seem to get a good photo of him though. I'm not used to high gloss snakes, so I always seem to end up with too much glare. Any hints?
